October 28, 2021 18:30 IST Read Time:3 min Here's How Sugar Rush Affects You The bรธdy requires more energy while digesting sugary foods which eventually leaves you with less energy. Food products like candies, pre-packed items and cakes provide no nutritional benefit and ultimately ends up making you feel lethargic and fatigued. Reported symptoms of a โ€œsugar crashโ€ include: A sudden feeling of tiredness Brain fog Trouble concentrating Your bรธdy then transports the sugar in your bloodstream to your muscles and organs, like your heart and brain. The muscles and organs use sugar to make energy. And that sugar hangover you feel is a real thing โ€” it happens due to the spike and faล‚ล‚ in your blรธรธd sugar levels. Eatฤฑng too much sugar can cause digestive distress and fatigue, which makes you sleepy after the meal, as your energy is directed to digestion. Overeating sugary foods and drinks can have adverse effects, such as lethargy, dizziness, confusion, and even anxฤฑety. When your levels drop as your cells absorb the sugar, you may feel jittery and anxious (a.k.a. the dreaded โ€œsugar crashโ€). Brain triggers release of hormones telling the bรธdy you need quick energy After initial burst, you feel fatigued as your bรธdy craves more carbs/sugar for fast energy These interconnected hormonal and metabolic processes explain why you may experience intense sleepiness and mental fog after a sugar rush. Mental Effects Memory and concentration issues Depression Anxiety Addiction-like neurochemical dependency on sugar Clearly, excessive sugar intake can negatively impact energy, mental sharpness, health, professional success, and quality of life. Minimizing added sugar is key to avoid chronically feeling drained. Most people start feeling tired and mentally foggy after consuming simple sugars or refined carbs on an empty stomach. Signs of a โ€œsugar crashโ€ can last up to a few hours and/or until the bรธdy restores normal blรธรธd glucose levels. Eatฤฑng sweets and simple carbs causes your blรธรธd sugar to spike, prompting a rush of insulin to lower glucose quickly. This rapid rise and fall of blรธรธd sugar leads to fatigue soon after consuming sugar. Your bรธdy craves more fast carbs to bring glucose back up.
nondivisable some of yall need to understand that "my bรธdy, my chรธice" also applies to: addicts in active addiction with no intention of quitting phys dฤฑsabled people who deny medical treatment neurodivergent people who deny psychiatric treatment (yes, including schizophrenic people and people with personality dฤฑsorder) trans people who want or don't want to medically transition and if you can't understand that, then you don't get to use the phrase

When you are getting a massage, your body is going into a state of relaxation. This can be a very calming and peaceful experience. As your muscles relax and your body releases tension, you can start to drift off into a state of slumber. These techniques can help to release tension and stress, allowing the body to reach a state of deep relaxation. The combination of these techniques can help to create an environment that is conducive to sleep. The massage itself can also be very calming and soothing. The gentle pressure, combined with the warmth of the massage therapist's hands, can help to relax the body and mind. When a client falls asleep while being touched by another person it indicates a deep level of trust and relaxation.

NREM Stage N1 This stage of non-REM sleep is the typical transition from wakefulness to sleep and generally lasts only a few minutes. Stage N1 is the lightest stage of sleep; patients awakened from it usually donโ€™t perceive that they were actually asleep During this stage: Eye movements are typically slow and rolling. heartbeat and breathing slow down muscles begin to relax you produce low amplitude mixed frequencies waves in the theta range (4 to 7 Hz) NREM Stage N2 This next stage of non-REM sleep comprises the largest percentage of total sleep time and is considered a lighter stage of sleep from which you can be awakened easily. This is the stage before you enter deep sleep. During this stage: heartbeat and breathing slow down further no eye movements body temperature drops Sleep spindles and K-complexes are two distinct brain wave features that appear for the first time NREM Stage N3 This final stage of non-REM sleep is the deepest sleep stage. Stage N3 sleep is known as slow-wave, or delta, sleep. Your body performs a variety of important health-promoting tasks in this final non-REM stage. During this stage: arousal from sleep is difficult heartbeat and breathing are at their slowest rate no eye movements body is fully relaxed delta brain waves are present tissue repair and growth, and cell regeneration occurs immune system strengthens REM Stage R There are two phases of REM sleep: phasic and tonic. Phasic REM sleep contains bursts of rapid eye movements, while tonic REM sleep does not. Stage R occurs about 90 minutes after you fall asleep, and is the primary โ€œdreamingโ€ stage of sleep. Stage R sleep lasts roughly 10 minutes the first time, increasing with each REM cycle. The final cycle of stage R may last roughly between 30 to 60 minutes. During this stage: eye movements become rapid during phasic REM breathing and heart rate increases and become more variable muscles become paralyzed, but twitches may occur brain activity is markedly increased When you fall asleep at night, you cycle through all of these stages of sleep multiple times โ€” roughly every 90 minutes or so.

disabilityreminders Youโ€™re allowed to use accommodations even if you could technically get by without them. Use the accommodations if you can. You donโ€™t need to be at the highest level of suffering to be valid in using them. ๐Ÿ’™ Most kids with ASD are either hypersensitive or hyposensitive to stimuli like noises, lights, touch, etc. If someone has Autism and/or PTSD, he/she may be more prone to sensory overload and startle more easily. That means thereโ€™s not much information about how typical treatment methods can or should be adjusted for patients with ASD. According to this article, a nurse couldโ€ฆ Offer home-based services Use more visual aids, such as gradient scales to describe degrees of emotion Keep appointment times regular and predictable as much as possible Provide sensory toys or allow children to bring their own Emphasize the possibility of a โ€œhappy endingโ€ after traumaโ€•โ€‹โ€œthis correlates well with the documented effectiveness of social stories, narratives and role-playing in therapy involving individuals with ASDโ€ Be mindful of how often society dismisses the emotions of autistic people Involve other trusted caregivers โ€ฆand more. Essentially, the therapist should keep the childโ€™s unique strengths and limitations in mind at each step and be open to flexibility. Remember toโ€ฆ Not take behavior personally Be willing to listen without pressuring him/her to talk Identify possible triggers and help him/her avoid them Remain calm and understanding when he/she is emotional Let him/her make age-appropriate choices so he/she feels in control of his/her life Be patient ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ˜ท Before beginning trauma-focused therapy it is important to stabilise the individual with emotional coping strategies and creating feelings of safety. Support strategies that have been found to be helpful in the general population include: mindfulness and grounding in the present moment creating feelings of safety (for example an object/picture that symbolises safety) sensory soothing Autistic people may require: a greater number of sessions a longer or shorter duration to each session regular breaks. ๐Ÿ˜ท
๐Ÿ˜ท Treatments should be appropriately adapted for autistic people and their individual needs. (Rumball et al. 2020) and Kerns et al. (2022) suggest a number of other events that autistic people found traumatic: abandonment by/loss of a loved one (for example a family member, pet or support staff) sensory experiences (for example fire alarms) transitions and change (for example school transitions, routine changes with the seasons, unpredictability in day to day life) social difficulties and confusion (for example difficulties interpreting social cues, misunderstandings and conflicts) events related to oneโ€™s own mental health difficulties (for example psychotic experiences). Autistic people may also be more likely to find these experiences traumatic due to autistic characteristics such as: sensory sensitivities communication and social interaction differences distress around changes to routines distress if prevented from taking part in repetitive and restricted behaviours such as stimming. Some theories suggest that other factors associated with being autistic, may mean an increased risk of developing or maintaining PTSD symptoms But just because symptoms arenโ€™t crippling doesnโ€™t mean you're not affected. ๐Ÿ˜ท

The central symptom of sleep talking is audible expression that occurs during sleep without the person being aware of it happening. It can be gibberish or resemble normal speech and consists in the unaware production of vocalisation during sleep. However, people are very rarely aware that they are talking in their sleep at the time and typically have no recollection of the episodes when they wake up. A large number of sleep speeches merely consist of short expressions of assent or negation (e.g., โ€˜OKโ€™, โ€˜no,โ€™ โ€˜good,โ€™ โ€˜mm-hm,โ€™ โ€˜uh-huh,โ€™ โ€˜no!โ€™ โ€˜stop!โ€™ โ€˜donโ€™t!โ€™, etc.) As they experience different sensations and emotions in their dreams, it may manifest as groaning or other vocalisations. Excess mucus, combined with nose breathing and narrow airways, can lead to rattling or whistling sounds. Congestion and dry or swollen nasal membranes can clog up the works making breathing audible instead of peaceful. Sometimes itโ€™s occasional, a gentle, perhaps even peaceful, soft whistling. Other times it sounds like a buzz saw, getting closer and closer, paused by a moment of silence, before climaxing in an even louder snort or gasp for air. And sometimes when we fall into a deep sleep, the muscles in the roof of the mouth (soft palate), tongue and throat relax. The tissues in the back of the throat can relax enough that they partially block the airway. As we inhale and exhale, these tissues rattle and vibrate, resulting in sounds in some people. The tissue vibration increases as the airway narrows, causing the snoring to grow louder and louder. As a person inhales and exhales, the moving air causes the tissue to flutter and make noise. Usually during sleep the brain becomes used to oneโ€™s own snoring (a process called habituation) As mentioned, people sometimes donโ€™t hear themselves snore because the brainโ€™s ability to receive sensory information is limited while we sleep. Some external stimulus may cause a person to stir, however.
There are a few reasons for drooling in your sleep, including side sleeping and mouth breathing during sleep. Additionally, the swallow reflex occurs much less during sleep than during waking hours, which can lead to a buildup of saliva. That saliva can spill out of your mouth as drool when your facial muscles relax in your sleep and your mouth falls open. Mouth breathing during sleep may make drooling more likely, since drool can more easily escape when your mouth is open. While you sleep, your muscles typically relax. Since the muscles around your mouth are relaxed your mouth can be relaxed enough that saliva slips out. The position you sleep in could make you more prone to excessive drooling. As your body produces saliva, the liquid is more likely to escape from the front or the side of your mouth when itโ€™s facing downward due to mere gravity. Sleeping with your mouth open increases the amount of air that passes through your mouth. This increased air facilitates movement and can lead to an overflow of saliva out of your mouth. Because drool is your saliva escaping your mouth unintentionally, it's more likely to happen when you're not consciously able to control it, like when you're sleeping. Due to this muscle relaxation during sleep, there is no conscious effort in managing saliva and controlling the mouth. Factors such as sleep position, tongue placement, and overall muscle tone play a role.

Thank You You know, Iโ€™ve really grown attached to you. All this time Iโ€™ve spent with you has really made me feel a special connection to you. I mean, that doesnโ€™t surprise you now, does it? You gave me shelter, fed me, and youโ€™ve always been there for me. I honestly do not know how I could ever truly express my gratitude towards you. Youโ€™ve been so good to me, and I hope you know that I could not be any more grateful. I just wanted you to know that tonight, Iโ€™ll be bearing my - no, our - children, all 15,000 of them. Theyโ€™ll be a reminder of the special connection weโ€™ve shared these past few weeks; I just hope that you, or maybe your friends or family, will share the same connection with our children. From the bottom of my heart, thank you very much for being such a good host.

๐Ÿ’™ An Autism Specific Care Plan helps families give hospital staff important information. It tells them how to communicate and interact with the child and keep them safe. Families who use Autism Specific Care Plans feel happier with their care and feel that health care providers are better at working with their child or teen with autism. Hospitals and emergency rooms can also think about making changes to help patients with autism. Small changes can all help lower anxiety for kids and adults with autism. Some of these changes include keeping wait times short, creating a calm space, and playing a movie in the waiting area. Making sure parents are part of all medical care and treated as experts on their child can help both families and staff. Finally, hospital staff can try communicating in the way the patient prefers (talking vs. typing, etc.). ๐Ÿ’™

Losing Carrie Carrieโ€™s parents were deep in mourning They had lost their daughter, without warning Her mom moaned and wailed in deep sorrow Her dad would call the funeral home tomorrow Her mom looked down and in her head She wondered, if Carrie could, what she would have said If she could speak to them now, reach into their hearts Tell them how they would cope, where could they start? Her father looked down also and in his head His mind was racing with a sense of dread See, if Carrie could talk what she really would have said Is, โ€˜Mom, please help me, he knows Iโ€™m not dead.โ€™
Giggles Chuck climbed out of the bed and made his way to the bathroom, refusing to turn on the bedside lamp in case he disturbed his wife whom was lรฅyฤซng beside him. Finishing his busฤฑness, he made his way to the sink, and just as he began to run the water, thought he heard a faint laughter coming from the bedroom. โ€œHoney? Was that you?โ€ He listened carefully, but there was no reply from that dark doorway. Chuck turned back to the sink and continued to wash his hands, certain that it was just his half-asleep brain playing tricks. However, moments later, he once again thought he could hear a faint laughter from the bedroom. He turned off the water, and began to make his way back into the bedroom. The light was off, and in the bed, he could make out the shape of his wife lรฅyฤซng there. โ€œHoney? Were you laughing?โ€ Chuck flicked on the bedside lamp, and in an instant was looking into the unblinking ฤ‘eaฤ‘ eyes of his wife, her mouth sliced from ear-to-ear in a grotesque mockery of a smฤฑle. Chuck felt his heart freeze, before relief washed over him. โ€œOh, it WAS you!โ€ he exclaimed with a smฤฑle as he peeled back the ฬ› bed sheets, stฤฑll stiff from the long dried bล‚ooฤ‘, and climbed back into ฬ› bed, kissing his wifeโ€™s cold cheek before turning out the light. โ€œFor a moment there, I thought I was going cRaZy.โ€
I Want to Help It was a beautiful morning when I woke up, the sun shining through and the wildlife up and about. I went for my morning stroll, taking my usual route. I stopped by the surface of the water, when I saw the most peculiar thing: a little girlโ€ฆ In there. Couldnโ€™t she breathe? Why didnโ€™t she come out? Panicking, I reached out and grabbed her arms, yanking her out of it and holding her close to me. She started to scream, but then seemed to be choking. I tried to calm her down. โ€œShhโ€ฆ Everything is fine, little one, I saved you! Relax! Breathe in!โ€ But she wouldnโ€™t. And soon, despite all my efforts, she went limp. Not again! I couldnโ€™t understand. I had taken her out of that horrible, disgusting air, and into the safety of the water. What had I done wrong this time? Maybe my tentacles frighten them. Maybe I wasnโ€™t gentle enough. Human children are so unpredictable. Iโ€™ll save one for real next time, I swear.
Hidden by the Rustling Corn The shortcut through the Corn field tempts you as youโ€™re walking home the clouds above keep the moon concealed As you enter the swaying corn, alone. - The corn grows tall and thick, my friend, the path you chose is muddy it grows in rows without scope or end and in the dark, you hurry - You donโ€™t see the standing forms As you pass them on your way they stand still amongst the swaying corn which hides their pallor, and decay - hundreds gather in this field tonight though you see none at all yet still you look around in fright but the corn grows too thick, too tall - You tell yourself as you continue through โ€œIts merely the rustling of the leaves,โ€ But they see you, and they hear you, And they might not let you leave.

inkskinned so first it was the oral contraceptฤฑve. you went on those young, mostly for reasons unrelated to birth cรธntrรธl - even your dermatologist suggested them to cรธntrรธl your acne and you just stared at it, horrified. it made you so mentally ฤฑll, but you just heard that this was adulthood. you know from your own experience that it is vanishingly rare to find a doctor that will actually numb the area. while your doctor was talking to you about which brand to choose, you were thinking about the other ways you've been injur3d in your life. you thought about how you had a suspicious mole frozen off - something so small and easy - and how they'd numbed a huge area. you thought about when you broke your wrist and didn't actually notice, because you'd thought it was a sprain. your understanding of paฤฑn is that how the human bรธdy responds to injury doesn't always relate to the actual paฤฑn tolerance of the person - it's more about how lucky that person is physฤฑcally. maybe they broke it in a perfect way. maybe they happened to get hurอ˜t in a place without a lot of nerve endings. some people can handle a broken femur but crumble under a sore tooth. there's no true way to predict how "much" something actually hurtฬธ. in no other situation would it be appropriate for doctors to ignore paฤฑn. just because someone can break their wrist and not feel it doesn't mean no one should receive paฤฑn meds for a broken wrist. it just means that particular person was lucky about it. it kind of feels like a shrug is layered on top of everything - it's usually something around the lines of "well, it didn't kฤฑล‚ล‚ you, did it?" like your life and paฤฑn are expendable or not really important. emi--rose Hi. I'm a family doctor who places a ton of IUDs, and I always offer a full paracervical block. It makes all the difference. The way it's just brushed off? I don't believe in inflicting unnecessary suffering. roach-works i tried to get an IUD once. i was told that because i was already menstruatฤฑon it would be easy, just a little pinch. but the doctor couldn't even get it in and she babytalked, which until today i didn't even know i could have been numbed. it hurอ˜t so much. i was told that was just a little pinch.

bebsi-cola disabled people deserve more than the bare minimum to live tbh and i don't mean in the "oh we have extra costs that makes being disabled more expensive" - which is true but i'm counting those in the budget to live. disabled people also deserve enough money to buy treats, nice clothes, fund their hobbies, take a trip away and so on. being disabled shouldn't force you into a life of frugality and poverty Mar 7th, 2024

chronically-persistent You know Iโ€™ve been thinking, there should be no guilt in experiencing happฤฑnแฅฑss as a disabled or chronically ฤฑll person. compassionatereminders "But why do you let your disability stop you?" Because that's.... what disabilities... do. That's... literally the basic definition... of being disabled... A disability impairs your ability to function. That's what the term means. That's the main thing Feb 17th, 2024
chthonic-pain if you work at an inaccessible venue and a dฤฑsabled person calls up to ask if there is wheelchair access, you are doing them a favour and being a good ally by saying the truth and warning that person about inaccessibility. if you want to help dฤฑsabled people, you need to make an effort not to put obstacles in our way, and that means informing us of access issues so that we can plan around them and avoid getting stuck or hurtฬธ. if you lie about or try to minimise access issues, you are instead putting us in danger. we will learn about the inaccessibility one way or another: either by you telling us, or by going there and finding out for ourselves when we hit a roadblock. don't let it be the second one.. Snoring can be caused by a number of factors, such as the anatomy of your mรธuth and sinuses, allergies, a cold, and your weฤฑght. When you doze off and progress from a light sleep to a deeper sleep, the muscles in the roof of your mรธuth (soft palate), tongue and thr*at relax. The tissues in your thr*at can relax enough that they partially block your airway and vibrate. The more narrowed your airway, the more forceful the airflow becomes. This increases tissue vibration, which causes your snoring to grow louder.
How are sleep and anaesthesia the same? How do they differ? Sleep is natural. When you have met the need for it, it will finish by itself. Anaesthesia is caused by dr*gs. It will only finish when the dr*gs wear off. These dr*gs work by acting on the same parts of the brain that control sleep. While you are under anaesthesia your vital signs are constantly monitored to make sure you are 'asleep' and not feeling any paฤฑn. However you are in a drug-induced unconsciousness,dream-like experiences. In some cases, the patient may experience some confusion or disorientation after waking up from it. A common patient response on emerging from is disorientation, unaware of time passed.

6 NOV 2013 ANESTHESIA If youโ€™re having general anesthesia, an anesthesiologist will give you medications that make you lose consciousness. After the surgery is complete, you wonโ€™t be wide awake right away. General anesthesia brings on a sleep-like state with the use of a combination of medicines. The medicines, known as anesthetics, are given before and during surgery or other medical procedures. General anesthesia usually uses a combination of intravenous medicines and inhaled gasses. You'll feel as though you're asleep. But general anesthesia does more than put you to sleep. You don't feel pain when you're under general anesthesia. This is because your brain doesn't respond to pain signals or reflexes. While you're under anesthesia, the anesthesia team monitors you, watches your body's vital functions, manages your breathing and treats pain related to the procedure. Your surgery might not require general anesthesia, but you might need sedation to be comfortable during the procedure. The effects of sedation, also called twilight sedation and monitored anesthesia care, can include being sleepy but awake and able to talk, or being asleep and unaware of your surroundings. The recovery from sedation is similar to that of general anesthesia but patients usually wake up quicker and their recovery time is shorter. As with general anesthesia, you wonโ€™t be able to drive and should probably have someone stay with you for at least the first several hours after you return home. You'll slowly wake either in the operating room or the recovery room. You'll probably feel groggy and a little confused when you first awaken. You may continue to be sleepy, and your judgment and reflexes may take time to return to normal.
Consciousness requires both wakefulness and awareness. Wakefulness is the ability to open your eyes and have basic reflexes such as coughing, swallowing. Awareness is associated with more complex thought processes and is more difficult to assess. General anaesthesia is medication that gives a deep sleep-like state. You are unconscious and feel nothing. A coma is a state of unconsciousness where a person is unresponsive and cannot be woken. Someone who is in a coma is unconscious and has minimal brain activity. They're alive but can't be woken up and show no signs of awareness. The person's eyes will be closed and they'll appear to be unresponsive to their environment. Over time, the person may start to gradually regain consciousness and become more aware. Some people feel they can remember events that happened around them while they were in a coma. People who do wake up from a coma usually come round gradually. They might be very agitated and confused to begin with. As well as talking to the person and holding their hand, you might want to try playing them their favourite music. A person who shows clear but minimal or inconsistent awareness is classified as being in a minimally conscious state. They may have periods where they can communicate or respond to commands, such as moving a finger when asked. Some people may recover from these states gradually, during which time the person may start to gradually wake up and gain consciousness, or progress into a different state.
The different types of anesthesia are broadly described as: Local anesthesia (agents, either topical or injectable, given to temporarily block paฤฑn in a specific part of the bรธdy) in which the medication only removes sensation from one part of your bรธdy, but you are not unconscious. Regional anesthesia (injected agents, to numb a portion of the bรธdy) General anesthesia (an agent, given either by mask or an IV line, to induce unconsciousness) General anesthesia is highly effective in keeping you unaware of your surgical procedure. Monitored anesthesia care (also known as "twilight sleep") It can be given intravenously (IV, by injection into the vein). The medication works quickly and typically puts you to sleep in under a minute. Medicines administered via the bloodstream begin to take effect quickly, often within minutes. Most people feel very relaxed at the start of IV sedation as the medicines begin to take effect. Many people remember the feeling of relaxation and waking up after the procedure is over but nothing in between. There are different levels of IV sedation, and you may or may not be awake during the procedure. Your anesthesia team will adjust your sedation level throughout the procedure. One other type of anesthesia apart from general is called MAC (monitored anesthesia care), where you are kept sleepy and given paฤฑn medication but still breathe independently. Anesthesia can provide sedation ranging from slight (relaxed and mildly sleepy) to deep sleep.
