Gyaru culture is a Japanese youth subculture that first
emerged in the 1970s
but reached its zenith during the 1990s
and early 2000s !!
there are many different substyles - and substyles for gyaru-o's (male gyaru)
and some branched versions of og gyaru! like how
banba developed from manba - but still has it's own
flair to it! some gyaru substyles are :
rokku - rock/punkish gyaru
goshikku - gothic gyaru
hime gyaru - princess gyaru / princess gal
okay - you wanna know what ISN'T a substyle?
kogal (partially) and tropical gyaru !!!
tropical gyaru is a choppy, tiktoky watered down version of gyaru!
the people who "made" it or popularized it don't know anything of the gyaru
culture !! and kogal?
it's not really a substyle! it's a style for gyaru's in highschool!!!
who incorporate their school uniforms into their style !!
(because yk how strict schools in japan are - they obvi can't strut into
school like that) kogal is just a definition of a gyaru in highschool !!
i hate when people water down gyaru - the whole point
is to have their own style and be flashy n what not !!
i hate tiktok versions of style - they're totally misconceptualized !!
here r sum gyaru substyles that don't exist !!
-scene gyaru
-tropical gyaru
-street gyaru (good alt ver is amekaji - but it's more colorful)
-emo gyaru (again -rukko and goshikku are good alts<3)
gyaru isn't strict - (i mean have you seen the styles? :D)
there's a substyle for everyone !!
but here's the thing - you can't really be a gyaru w/o makeup!
especially w/ yamanba and manba !!
the makeup gives it personality - w/o it you just don't
look like a gyaru. it'll look watered down and whatnot.
so please - get makeup and look up tuts before walking around
claiming your a gyaru !! (NO HATE <3)

-fairy kei : whimsical / cute, emerged from kawaii culture + 1980's pop icons
-agejo : vry glamourous and feminine
-ganguro : striking + unconventional, similar to manba
-manba : very vibrant, colorful and lively. lot's of makeup
-mode gyaru : sleek, mature and classy. sophisticated and cutesy !!
anyone can be gyaru !! it's a popular style that's reached lots of people
throughout the world !! anyone of any age, gender, skin tone, etc etc !!
