Adeline had never been though the big back gate, she thought it looked scary especially since it was raining and the sky was grey. Her short black hair was soaked with nothing but a jacket to cover herself in. She shivered in the blazing cold, her teeth chattering together. Others just shoved her and ran through trying to get to get stepped on like an ant. Adeline grabbed her jacket and put it on top of her head using the hood to stop her butler from recognising her. She walked through the gate, her face a ray of sunshine. Is this what it means to be free? She thought to herself. She walked and walked for what seemed like days, hours until her little legs could bear no more. She sat on a bench and took a sip of water looking towards her reflection in a puddle of water watching it shimmer like the stars as she swung her legs up and down. What will I do now? She thought to herself. Adeline never did plan her escape well, after all she was only 5 years old. Her family would find her soon, she thought, would they care about me? She walked further ahead to find a little yellow tunnel in the playground and sat inside.It felt cold and wet but it was all she could find. Adeline closed her eyes and went to sleep. As she opened her eyes she found herself in a cozy cot. She got up instantly to see toys scattered across the floor. ‘’This isn't my house.’’ The door slowly opened and Adeline made out a black figure. The person stood on her tippy toes and walked into the light. It was a little baby. Adeline stared at the kid and saw someone behind. As she looked up she saw an old lady holding cream cookies and milk. She wore a pink skirt and orange long sleeve shirt. Her hair was grey and she wore big glasses that sat on the tip of her pointy long nose. ‘’Oh thank heavens your awake my dear’’ she said in a welcoming warm tone,’’here come get some cookies.’’ Adeline stared at the lady in deafening silence. The lady walked towards Adeline and placed the tray down, her stomach rumbled like a lion. Adeline wasn't sure if she could trust the old lady but she hasn't eaten since yesterday at lunch. She didn’t seem that harmful after all. The old lady walked out of the room and Adeline gobbled the cookies up like a dog. She bit into something thin and moist, Adeline pulled it out of her mouth to see a paper. She grabbed the other scattered bits from her mouth to see a bundle of words. Adeline loved puzzles! She grabbed them together and made out the sentence. ‘’ Welcome to your new home! Made with lots of love - Agness. Adeline looked at the baby on the floor trying to get up. She picked the baby and sat it on the cot. Adeline stared into his warm brown eyes. She thought to herself wondering if it was a good idea to stay. Suddenly the baby burst out in tears, Adeline held him and rocked him side to side, but something felt wrong… Wet even. Her eyes Grew in realization and she dropped the baby back into the cot. He screamed louder like a stampede of lions. ‘’OK OK CALM DOWN’’ her head screamed in panic, as Agness walked back inside she took the baby into the bathroom and shouted to Adeline, ‘’come sit down! I'm making lasagna. The old lady came back with a beaming smile, ‘’so what's your name?’’ Adeline replied. ‘’Well that's lovely, this is Joe she held the baby and placed him on her lap. ‘’He’s your new brother!’’ ‘’Hi Joe,’’ Adeline replied. I'm your new sister. DING DONG, I'll get it, said Adeline. She opened the door and saw her family staring down at her furiously with mixed emotions. ‘’ Adeline Get in the car NOW.’’ Adeline shook her head, her heart had given up on most of her family considering how she was treated often. Her eyes glared like fire at her family, she slammed the door in their face ‘’ ARNT I MURDERER TO YOU’’ and sat back at the table as if nothing had happened. Who was that? The old lady said as the doorbell flickered. My old family, but don't worry about them, they didn't want me anyways. If you see them again, say nothing. Her family would see her every now and then, but those who hurt her never again.
