I lay down among the garden feeling the soft pedals beneath me.then I turn. It’s Delilah Rose. She is the prettiest girl on the block. She walks like a daydream, wrapped in soft sweaters and skirts that brush against her knees. Her platinum blonde hair falls effortless waves, framing ice blue eyes that seem to hold stories. No one has ever heard as I was thinking I didn’t notice she was saying my name.”LILLY!?” I WOKE UP FROM DAYDREAMING “yes?’ I said.” did you get my invite?” invite?” I said.’ yes for my party.’ said Delilah.’ no I said.’ well look on your phone she’d walk away. Did I just get invited to her party?… I wasn’t expecting that you see I’m not the usual girl. I’m a bit dokey. I have glasses. I have messy hair. I have scruffy clothes and she’s way out of my leg. I wasn’t expecting her to invite me to her party. I didn’t want to make a fool of myself going with those type of clothes so I got up and went home and asked my mum.’ do you have clothes for a party?’ she said yes of course who’s party?’ Delilah roses.’ my mum was shocked probably because I was never invited to her party. She had them every year. I was never invited because I think I was too dokey.’ we will get you some new clothes today to wear to the party.’ My mum said. I agreed I went upstairs reading my book. I placed a book down and got into bed and turned my light off. I fell asleep. I woke up the next morning excited to get my new clothes. I made my way downstairs. My mum greeted me.’ good morning darling how was your sleep?’ I said.’ it was great. Are we still getting new clothes for the party?’ she said yes I was super excited. I had my breakfast while I was having my cereal. I was reading a book.’ okay hop in the car my mum said.’ I got in the car waiting to get there.’ we’re here.’ I looked up at this old scrappy house with a big sign that said thrift shop I wasn’t expecting to go to the thrift shop. I looked down my mum said.’ is everything okay?’ I said I thought we were going to the mall’ she said’ it’s way too expensive there. I’m sure we’ll find good clothes here and they will be cheap.’ I was a bit bummed but I opened the car door and went into the shop. The bells were ringing and there was this old lady with glasses that made her eyes big. She greeted us.’ hello dear.’ my mum said hello.’ I said hi very quietly.’ we turned around the corner and looked in the clothes aisle. The clothes looked very old. My Mum said these are the clothes that I wore when I was little.’ I said.’ but these are the clothes I don’t wanna wear. It’s not the olden days. People make fun of me.’ my mum was shocked and took it as offended.’ that was a little harsh she said.’ I grabbed an old dress.’ I think I’ll get this one.’ the dress was pink with white rhinestones around the waist with white lace on the skirt it looked pretty good to me. I looked at the price and I told my mum.’ it’s $1.95.’ she said great. We’ll get this one. We headed to the counter.’ just this pls’ the old lady scanned the items asking if you would want change’ I said no’ she put it in an old bag. We took it and paid and got back in the car and drove home.’ I wore it on the day. Everyone complimented me. They said the dress looks amazing. Where did you get it? I thought to myself nothing is too old. It will always look good. I thought about the people in need. They couldn’t even get a dress if they wanted it, I thought it was very bratty of me that I said that I apologise to my mum the next morning and said the dress was amazing. She hugged me and said thank you dear people are gonna judge you for what you wear, but some people can’t even wear things they like so imagine how they feel wearing old crappy clothes when people can just go and buy but they can’t because they need the money for their kids-written by Poppy
