โWhat a shitty nightโฆโ Wallace yawned, stretching his arms as he walked down the cold sidewalk. It had been a long day at the Call Center and Wallace was exhausted. The dark circles were visible in his eyes, more than because of the job, it was because Scott had not stopped being a complainer all week... The whole fucking month! โUgh, I don't want to make dinner todayโฆโ It was 9 pm, a few cars were still driving in Toronto as Wallace returned home after taking the bus.
He wasn't in the mood to greet Scott with his whining about being hungry or having a cold, much less complaints about the video store, but it was Scott, his 'adored' roommate for life and love. Scott was a good boy... That was if you took away the fact that he was a NEET dating a minor, but Scott was still one of his best decisions, better him, a straight guy who slept on his futon, than a straight guy who would be scandalized for the same.
โI should eat some toastโฆโ he mused as he approached his home, scratching the back of his neck as he looked for his keys. โA toast with butterโฆ and some hot chocolateโฆ Did I shop yesterday?โ
Wallace was about to insert the key into the lock when he noticed something on the entry mat.
He was wrinkled, plus the door was half open.
It was half open with scratches.
Wallace gulped, quickly knelt in the snow and began searching, caring little about freezing his hands.
In the frost he wielded a metal bat, a bat he had bought shortly after they tried to rob them last year when he and Scott were sleeping over Christmas.
With an inhale, he kicked the door open and turned on the light abruptly. โLET'S SEE, SON OF A BITCH, WHAT-โ
The first thing he received upon entering his humble abode was a puddle of dried blood. On the upholstered rug, on his half of the futon, on the kitchen bureau, on the telephone. All his things that were on shelves were scattered and his closet was messy, the sheet drawer exactly. Wallace felt his blood run cold only when he realized Scott was gone.
Then, for the first time in his entire busy day, Wallace pulled out his personal cell phone and looked at the notification tray.
53 messages and 12 missed calls from his own house.

The little thing was in an incubator, several tubes were attached to his little body and limbs in order to keep him alive. A strange and medical thing was on his nose and mouth to help him breathe. His little hands barely moved, but according to the doctors, the little thing was being very strong. Stephen, Kim and Young Neil watch as the little thing struggles to cling to life. Kim is sitting on the chairs, hugging herself while Stephen is having a breakdown, biting his nails and walking in circles, Young Neil is the only one more or less calm about the situation.
Scott was pregnant and they didn't know it.
Scott gave birth to a child alone.
Scott is in intensive care right now, stable after hours, but still under surveillance.
Wallace almost stumbled into the incubator room, his face red and a dismayed expression etched on his face. Young Neil is the only one who turned to look at him, pursing his lips. Neil wanted to cry.
โWhat the fuck?!โ The nurses and people nearby turned around immediately upon hearing that curse, looking at Wallace disapprovingly. An old man in a wheelchair made a hushing noise and Wallace flinched, but his worry didn't go away.
He approached Stephen and Kim with shaking hands.
โWhat happened to Scott? I get home and all I see is that it's a mess and there's blood, what the fuck?โ Wallace wants to confront the band's singer, but Stephen doesn't take his eyes off the little thing.
โScottโฆScott was in laborโฆโ Kim whispered. Her normally neutral voice is shaking, she bites her lip with a stuttering frown. โScottโฆno wonder he's been sick all these monthsโฆbut it's only been fiveโ Kim covered her mouth. โW-What made him go into premature labor?โ
Wallace stared at her in disbelief.
Scott was pregnant and he didn't know it.
Shit, all those times made sense. The time Scott suddenly vomited when Wallace made that plate of boiled eggs with gravy, when he started getting lazier and more unpunctual at his practice with his indie band, when he complained that he was getting fat because he his stomach was getting harderโฆ
โShitโ Wallace slumped next to Kim, clutching his head.
โWallaceโฆโ Young Neil called out to him. When Wallace looked up, he saw Neil suddenly standing in front of him. His expressionless eyes bored into her, somehow seeming gloomy. โHave you had sex with Scott?โ
Stephen and Kim looked up immediately, turning to look at Wallace with wide eyes. Wallace looked at the boy intrigued, but Neil continued to stare at him.
โW-What?โ
โDid you touch him? Did you have sex with him? Or have you made a pass at him?โ
โWhy don't you tell me what you want to tell me?!โ Wallace stood up upset, breaking into a cold sweat.
Neil stared at him for a few seconds.
โNeilโฆโ Stephen whispered with a scratchy voice, Wallace realized that now he was also looking at him judgingly.
โWe'll seeโฆโ Neil walked towards the display case, looking at the little thing's incubator. "We'll ask him..."
Wallace also felt Kim's stabbing gaze next to him.
He knew that maybe he should prepare for something big.
