Here is something to help new Therians!
I took my silver fox tail and mask and ran out of the door to the park, my neighbors screamed furry at me as loud as they could but I didn't listen. I ran through the park until I was at the edge of the forest. I put on my tail and mask and tried to shift or at least a blurry vision.
"Ok, furry magic, work," I murmured to myself, focusing on the full moon above me. I felt a weird tingle in my spine, and suddenly my eyesight changed. Everything looked more vivid, and I could see every leaf and blade of grass in the dark. It worked! I looked down at my hands and saw they were covered in soft fur, and my nails had turned into claws.
At this point I didn't know what a Therian was or what I was, so everything was furry back then.
The moon cast a silver glow on the forest floor, illuminating a path through the trees. My heart raced as the night sounds grew more vivid, the crickets' chirps echoing like a symphony in my heightened ears. The scent of the damp earth filled my nostrils, and I could taste the sweetness of the night air. I took a tentative step forward, the fur on my body standing on end as the cool breeze brushed against it.
With each step, my body grew more accustomed to this new form. My legs stretched, muscles lengthening into a four-legged stance. I flexed my new claws, feeling the power in them as they dug into the soil. The thrill of the shift overwhelmed me, and I couldn't help but let out a joyful howl, the sound resonating through the woods. The echo was soon met with the distant calls of other creatures, acknowledging my presence in their domain.
As I ventured deeper into the forest, the world around me became a dance of shadows and moonlight. My new senses picked up on every movement, from the rustle of a nearby rabbit to the flutter of an owl's wings high above. I could feel the energy of the night pulsing through me, urging me to explore and hunt. But I was no predator; I was merely a curious teenager with a secret.
I stumbled upon a clearing, where the moon's light spilled in, creating a serene space surrounded by ancient trees. The sight took my breath away. The leaves above me whispered secrets carried by the wind, and the smell of wildflowers filled the air. For a moment, I forgot about the chaos of the city and the fear of discovery. Here, in this enchanted glade, I was free to be whoever I truly was.
Then something stepped through the treeline, it was another furry!
This creature was much larger than me, with sleek black fur and piercing gold eyes. It was a wolf. My heart pounded in my chest, a mix of excitement and fear. It tilted its head, studying me with an air of curiosity. We locked eyes for what felt like an eternity, the silence of the night pressing down on us.
Slowly, the wolf approached, its graceful steps silent on the mossy ground. I held my breath, not knowing what to expect. As it grew closer, I could feel the heat of its breath and the power radiating from its muscular frame. Yet, there was something familiar about its gaze, something that spoke of understanding rather than threat.
It stopped a few feet away, and for a moment, we just stared at each other. Then, it lowered its head in what I could only interpret as a greeting. I tentatively took a step forward, and to my astonishment, the wolf did the same. We continued this dance of respect, inching closer until our noses almost touched. Its fur smelled of the forest—of pine and earth and freedom.
As we stood there, I felt a strange kinship with this creature of the night. It was as if we were two lost souls who had finally found each other. The wolf's tail began to wag, and I realized it was not afraid of me. It was welcoming me into its world, accepting me as one of its own. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, savoring the moment.
Then the wolf spoke, its voice a soft yet commanding whisper in my mind. "Welcome, young one," it said. "You have found your true form under the light of the moon. What brings you to these woods?"
Surprise flooded through me, and I stumbled back. "I-I'm just exploring," I managed to reply, my voice quivering with the effort of speaking in this new way. The wolf cocked its head, listening intently. "I've never felt this way before. I don't know what I am or why this is happening to me."
The wolf's eyes searched mine, and I felt a gentle prodding in my mind. It was reading my thoughts, understanding my fear and confusion. "You are a Therian," it said, the words clear as if it were speaking aloud. "A human with the soul of a fox. Your kind is rare, but not unheard of."
I stared at the wolf in amazement, my heart racing. "What does that mean?" I thought, my voice trembling.
"It means you are different, not human, nor animal. Like a bridge, you have a human body, but you have the soul of a fox. You are free, be yourself and ignore the haters"
The wolf's words brought a sense of clarity and belonging that I had never felt before. It explained that Therians were beings who could shift between their human and animal forms, each carrying the spirit of their creature within them. It told me that this gift was a part of a hidden world, a world where we could live as our true selves without fear of judgment or persecution.
Then I was sucked back into the normal world, I was on all fours, halfway through a jump, "Agghhh!" I shot my hands forward and caught myself.
My heart was racing, and I looked around to find myself in my room, the same room that I had been in when I put on the mask and tail. The moon was still out, but it was daylight outside my window. I felt drained, like I had just run a marathon. "What the hell was that?" I thought to myself.
The silver fox tail and mask lay on the floor, seemingly inert. I picked them up with trembling hands, examining them closely. They felt warm to the touch, as if they had just come from a living creature. The mask had intricate carvings that gleamed in the morning light, and the tail was softer than any fur I had ever felt. They weren't magical, I knew. I had made the decorated the mask myself with paint markers, fake fur, and mesh for the eyes. And the tail was from a tax edermy on Esty.
Yet, the vividness of my dream lingered. The wolf's words echoed in my mind: "You are a Therian, a human with the soul of a fox." Was it possible? I had always felt a deep connection to animals, especially foxes, but this was something else entirely. The sensations of fur and claws had been so real, the emotions so intense.
Perhaps I had a shift, where I feel like an animal, combined with a vision.
I couldn't ignore the profound experience I had just had. I needed answers. I turned to the one person I knew who might understand—my best friend, Emily. She had always been into the supernatural and had an open mind. I called her, my voice still shaking with excitement and nerves. "Em, you won't believe what happened to me last night!"
I hope this short story might of helped you with some confusion!
