I Want to Help
It was a beautiful morning when I woke up, the sun shining through
and the wildlife up and about. I went for my morning stroll, taking my
usual route.
I stopped by the surface of the water, when I saw the most peculiar
thing: a little girl… In there. Couldn’t she breathe? Why didn’t she
come out? Panicking, I reached out and grabbed her arms, yanking
her out of it and holding her close to me. She started to scream, but
then seemed to be choking. I tried to calm her down. “Shh…
Everything is fine, little one, I saved you! Relax! Breathe in!”
But she wouldn’t. And soon, despite all my efforts, she went limp. Not
again! I couldn’t understand. I had taken her out of that horrible,
disgusting air, and into the safety of the water. What had I done
wrong this time?
Maybe my tentacles frighten them. Maybe I wasn’t gentle enough. Human
children are so unpredictable. I’ll save one for real next time, I
swear.
