Chapter 1
Snowkit woke up. "Snorekit! Wake up!" She whispered to her sister. Her mom, Mudstep, looked at her with wet eyes. "Snowkit, go play outside alone, for now. Snorekit is very... tired." She mewed. Snowkit looked disappointed. "Okay..." she left with her tail hanging. Tigerkit jumped on her back as soon as she stepped outside. "Ha! Got you!" He yelled. Snowkit shook him off, and hit him playfully. Tigerkit tackled her. Tigerkit was 2 moons older, and way bigger. They rolled around. "But it's unfair!" Snowkit was pinned to the ground. Tigerkit laughed. "No, it's not, you just need to train more!" He let her go. Snowkit held her tail high. "Hmpf, you are just bigger. Wait until I’m your age!" She turned around, towards the nursery. Her father, Stubtail, ran in, Icefoot, the medicine cat, following. "Dad? What is going on? Is Snorekit sick?" She trotted in. Mudstep held Snorekit close. Icefoot held some purple flower, which smelled very nice. "Does Snorekit smell that bad?" She mewed to Stubtail. Stubtail licked her head. "Don't worry, dear. It will all be okay." He mewed. "Dad? What is really happening?" She asked, fear in her voice. I think I know... her mind racing with thoughts. "Snowkit, your sister is dead." Icefoot broke the silence.
It had been 2 days since her sister had passed. Snowkit looked up at her mother. Mudstep hadn't recovered from her grief, and wasn't expected to. "All cats old enough to swim, gather under the flowy rock for a clan gathering!" Leafstar yelled. Snowkit couldn’t swim, but sat next to her father anyway. When half the clan was gathered, she saw Tigerkit and Sunkit being pushed out of the nursery by Grassheart. Is this their apprentice ceremony? They look so good! She let out a soft purr. Stubtail laid his tail around her. "Tigerkit and Sunkit, come here." Leafstar mewed strict. Sunkit looked around before walking after the proud Tigerkit. "Tigerkit wished to become a warrior apprentice, to fight and hunt for the clan." He mewed. The clan mumbled approvingly before Leafstar continued. "I, Leafstar, will mentor Tigerkit. I will teach Tigerkit wisdom and tactic." Surprised mumbles went along the crowd. "Sunkit, you wished to become a medicine cat apprentice, and will be apprenticed by Icefoot. Icefoot, do you promise to teach Sunkit all your knowledge?" Leafstar asked the young medicine cat. Icefoot puffed out her chest. "Yes, I promise." She mewed. Leafstar nodded. "Then, Tigerkit and Sunkit shall be known as Tigerpaw and Sunpaw." She finished. Grassheart screamed their names first, before the rest followed. Snowkit looked around, and then screamed too. "Tigerpaw! Sunpaw! Tigerpaw! Sunpaw!" Snowkit yelled. Tigerpaw walked past Snowkit. "Don't worry, I will teach you every tactic I learn." He whispered in her ear. Snowkit nodded, but inside she jumped around.
"Okay, now jump!" Tigerpaw mewed to Snowkit. Snowkit jumped, but fell when she landed. "Ouch!" She mewed. Tigerpaw walked up to Snowkit. "You okay? Or do I have to call Sunpaw?" He mewed worried. Snowkit nodded. "It does really hurt, so Sunkit and Icefoot it is..." she mewed, rubbing her front right paw with her tail. Tigerkit sprinted into the medicine den. Soon enough, Icefoot crawled out, carrying some cobwebs, and something they couldn’t place. "Where did you land on, Snowkit?" She asked. Snowkit nodded to her paw. Icefoot inspected it. "Hm, just a slight displacement, nothing serious." She touched her paw. "This is going to hurt, okay?" She warned. Snowkit closed her eyes. A shot of pain went through her paw. "Ouch!" She yelled. She opened her eyes carefully, and saw Tigerpaw looked at her with worry. "Yeah, it's over now..." she mewed to Tigerpaw and Icefoot. "Be careful next time." Icefoot mewed. Snowkit nodded, and looked at Tigerpaw. "Ehh, no training for now, I don't want you to feel that paw pain again, or get it worse?" He mewed, surprised of his own words. "But we can go to Streamflow for a story!" He added quickly as he saw the disappointment in Snowkit's eyes. Snowkit sat up excited again. Together they walked to the elder’s den.
