A boating party, consisting of 8, left the town of Kenmare on Sunday last, and proceeded up the river about four miles, when a squall came on, and melancholy to relate, the boat upset and three people (Geoffrey Houlehan, Jeremiah Murphy, and Robert Downing) were drowned. The others saved themselves by clinging to the boat for upwards of an hour and a half, when a small boat from a vessel anchored in the harbour put off and rescued them from their perilous situation. The body of Downing was found the following day.
