i don't know if it's
her stylist, her team, or whoever
but sabrina carpenters current era is really
starting to cause damage to young girls- the short n sweet
tour has brought an onslaught of preteens
defending sabrina's catering to the male gaze
and repackaging it as 'empowering'.
i hate getting on here and spreading negativity but it's the truth.
let's look at the facts: sabrina carpenter,
a woman who previously dressed and made music
that was both lyrically and stylistically mature has
only now started to really break in
to the mainstream after rebranding into
essentially the poster child for
the 'born sexy yesterday' trope.
and this is not to say that artists can't
change their style/experiment with new things,
it just becomes an issue
when suddenly they are essentially taking the classic
pornsick male fantasy and labelling it as modern feminism.
now, sabrina (or anyone for that matter) can't help
that she's blonde, tiny, and conventionally attractive,
and by no means am i blaming HER personally for 'setting us back'.
what i AM saying is that these sexually
explicit performances up in a pretty pink
bow are causing harm. i DONT want to see underage girls
in lingerie at the stadium,
i DONT want to see people recreating
their favourite juno poses and it SHOULDNT be happening. t
o sabrina (and tons of artists like her) this is how
she makes money and gains recognition,
to impression girls this is how poor self image starts.
